I’m definitely still on a journey to be more conscious and minimalistic during my travels, and one way I’ve found to have helped a lot, is simply to let go of the idea that you can’t wear the same thing several times👕🥾

I really don’t mind wearing the same socks several days in a row or using shirts or underwear with holes in them! If it keeps me traveling - I’m good! 🤪

Also, there’s something called a washing-machine (or hand-wash)🧼

👑Remember: Minimalistic travel is about collecting moments, not outfits💭

Reasons why Germany is NOT budget travel friendly:
🛌 Hostels are about €25/night
🥾🌳Nature activites are a pricy for example visiting Breitachklamm is €7.5 + €4 for parking and Cable cars for popular hikes are €30-€50.

Ways to travel Germany on a budget:
🚂Unlimited travel for €58 with Deutsche Bahn rail pass on all local trains, buses, trams, subways, etc.
🏰With a 14-day castle ticket (€35) you can visit over forty of the most beautiful state sights in Bavaria.

🇦🇱 Albania: 8/10
Gyro for €2 anyone?! I won’t ever shut up about the balkans for many reasons: 1. Beyond beautiful landscape and architecture.
2. Welcoming people
3. Budget travel friendly to a T!

🇮🇹 Italy: 6/10
In Italy ice cream is cheap which is a huge plus! But accommodation and a lot of attractions are not very budget travel friendly! Though a lot of museums have reduced fees for students/EU citizens under 25 and all churches are free!!

🇭🇷 Croatia: -8/10
Do NOT visit Croatia in summer (Jun-sep)! Prices are kept artificially high due to places being famous tourist spots! For example:
🪷Plitvice lakes = €40
🍄Krka NP = €40
⛩️Dubrovnik City Walls = €35
☕️Coffee in split = €7

Traveling solo doesn’t mean always being alone! Here are some tips to make friends while traveling solo 👏🏼

⭐️Join group activities
Participate in activities hosted by your hostel or a local pub etc. You will meet fellow solo travellers or others with similar interests.

⭐️ Don’t get stuck in your demographic!
Many travel because they want to learn about new cultures, but that also includes challenging your biases and the age, gender, ethnicity etc. you hang out with!

⭐️ Join free walking tours
It’s not only educational but you also meet other travellers. A few times I’ve made plans for the next day with people I met on free walking tours when traveling solo.

⭐️Stay in social accommodations
Choose hostels, and centrally located hotels where travellers tend to gather so it’ll be easy to meet like-minded people when solo traveling.

⭐️Be open
Be open to conversation, and take initiative to talk with strangers. Introduce yourself and ask about others’ travel plans to make the conversation smoother. Maybe you’re also unknowingly being unapproachable by having guarded body language or not really getting out of your comfort zone when travelling solo.

⭐️Join Worldpackers
Volunteering for a local organization or community project is a great way to meet other travelers as well as locals.

💫 GROUP TOURS
A lot of people opt to do a group tour to start out their solo travels. These are great for first-timers because everything is organised for you and you’re guaranteed to be with a group the whole time.

It’s okay to be a little different - that’s what makes us unique🫶🏼🦄

The topic around being alone (and traveling solo) means SO much to me. I’ve been able to truly find myself again after I started to do things alone.

I used to be crippled with anxiety and could barely go to the grocery store without having a panic attack! I had to leave school and became very isolated. Today I still have to pinch myself when I catch a flight - because there was a time I never imagined I could do that alone❤️‍🩹

I don’t share this for pity (at all!) just as a reminder that there are others out there who don’t quite fit in anywhere. And that’s OKAY🥰

And remember - being alone and being lonely are two fundamentally different states of being! (Please reach out if you’re feeling lonely, you don’t have to suffer in silence)🙏🏼

We all make mistakes - especially when traveling foreign countries…
I’ve had my fair share of stupid (and expensive) fails while *trying* to budget travel🥲

Here’s some of the most stupid ways I’ve lost money while budget traveling ✈️

💸 I validated a ticket for the wrong bus in Budapest and got fined 12000 HUF (€30)!

💸 I missed my pre-booked bus from Istanbul to Athens which was €60 and ended up buying a last-minute plane ticket to Athens (to catch my connecting bus to Albania) which cost me €160 - so a total loss of €220 just because I missed my bus…

💸 I got scammed in a souvenir shop in Izmir for €407! I’m still fighting with my bank to get it back…

💸 I once got billed $485 in roaming charges for only 400MB while in North Macedonia… something that would’ve cost me $5 as an eSIM…

💸 I didn’t research the timetable of the return bus in Hvar, Croatia and had to pay €50 for a taxi back to my accommodation as the buses didn’t go after 4pm… always remember to check timetables!
